Afghanistan
MSI Reproductive Choices Afghanistan (MSIA) was established in 2002 and has remained operational throughout significant periods of political upheaval.
MSIA is one of the main providers of voluntary reproductive health services in Afghanistan and provides services in 18 out of 34 provinces of Afghanistan: Badakhshan, Baghlan, Balkh, Bamyan, Daykundi, Farah, Faryab, Herat, Helmand, Jawzjan, Kabul, Kandahar, Kapisa, Kunduz, Nangahar, Samangan, and Takhar.
By employing local expertise and having an Afghan-led management team, MSIA ensures that strategic and programmatic decision-making is informed by a deep understanding of the local context and relevant social norms. It is this sensitivity that has facilitated strong relationships at national, provincial, and district levels and ensured continued access to essential health services for hundreds of thousands of women and girls.
MSIA provides a full range of reproductive health services as well as mental health and psychosocial support. All MSIA’s services are provided for women, by women.
