In 2018, MSI went further than ever to provide high quality reproductive health services to women and girls, whenever and wherever they need them. We averted 6.4 million unsafe abortions and 32,000 maternal deaths.

While MSI continued to increase its impact across our 37 country programmes, the external environment in which we work has become ever more challenging. The financial impact of Trump’s Global Gag Rule and its wider chilling effect has begun to take root. We are seeing a more co-ordinated and well-funded opposition movement at national level, and there have been a series of attacks on sexual and reproductive health and rights within global policy forums over the past year.

Despite these challenges, our clients, providers and teams have shown resilience, resistance, and a refusal to let this difficult environment be a barrier to access.  Across the partnership we have continued to fight stigma, stretch resources, remove barriers, and empower women to realise their sexual and reproductive rights.
