Support abortion law reform
For the past decade, we’ve campaigned against the Victorian era abortion laws in Britain, which allowed people to be prosecuted for having an abortion.
On the 17th June, we won: MPs voted for change and to protect abortion rights, by supporting amendment NC1. When this amendment becomes law, nobody will face jail for ending their own pregnancy. That’s the way it should be.
We would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who made this happen – by writing to their MP with our online tool, spreading the word, or donating to the fight for global abortion rights. Thousands of our supporters were part of this.
We should take a moment to celebrate this milestone. But our fight continues.
The vote will now go to the House of Lords before it becomes law. MSI will be there, working alongside decision-makers to implement changes and safeguard abortion rights.
And beyond England and Wales, many people can still face criminal charges for having an abortion, in countries both near and far. It is unfair – abortion is healthcare, not a crime.
MSI campaigns for reproductive rights worldwide, so if you’re keen to take part in more wins like this in the future, please consider making a donation today.
