WASHINGTON, D.C. / LONDON, June 24, 2024 – MSI Reproductive Choices, a global leader in reproductive health services, has today announced the launch of its new digital reproductive healthcare campaign: Vagina Privacy Network (VPN). Created to provide guidance for those seeking abortion care or reproductive health information – the Vagina Privacy Network is a user-friendly, step-by-step guide for anyone looking to protect their digital privacy and bodily autonomy in an age of digital surveillance.

The overturning of Roe Vs. Wade two years ago has led to a rise in attacks on reproductive rights in the US and globally, and that includes the right to access information online. While virtual private networks (VPNs) have long been synonymous with privacy protection, a new attack on bodily autonomy requires new digital defenses. The Vagina Privacy Network is a different kind of “VPN” that offers resources to help individuals stay anonymous and protected when searching for information on their health and rights. Online users can now visit VaginaPrivacyNetwork.org, to explore a digital privacy toolkit that contains vital online safety tips, tools and resources, developed with leading digital privacy organization, the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Whitney Chinogwenya, Global Marketing Manager at MSI Reproductive Choices, said:

“After the right to abortion was removed in the US two years ago, we’ve seen attacks on our rights worldwide – including the right to access information on our reproductive choices. Accurate content on abortion and contraception has been censored by global tech platforms, and search histories have been tracked.

“Decisions about our health are personal and there are many reasons why we might want to keep them private. Whether to avoid anti-choice websites that gather data on those searching for abortion, or to keep search histories from abusive partners, it’s important we all know how our digital footprints could put us at risk. It’s everyone’s right to access information on their reproductive health and choices and I’m proud that the Vagina Privacy Network will help to safeguard that right.”

In 2022, the United States Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe V. Wade – effectively ending the constitutional right to abortion care. On the second anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Ruling, MSI’s launch of the Vagina Privacy Network signifies the ongoing need to provide safe and secure access to reproductive health information worldwide in the wake of rising anti-choice opposition and legislation.

Individuals exploring their reproductive care options often do not have time to familiarize themselves with approaches to digital privacy or where to turn for support. The Vagina Privacy Network is a one-stop shop for resources, providing visitors with a range of digital tools and tips, because just like birth control, when it comes to protecting your digital privacy, no method is 100% effective.

Eva Galperin, Director of Cybersecurity at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, said:

“Protecting your digital privacy in a rapidly-changing world can be difficult and confusing. The Vagina Privacy Network walks you through it in a way that’s clear and simple.”

For far too long women around the world have been impacted by restrictions on access to accurate information on abortion and their reproductive health and rights online. And while navigating an evolving reproductive healthcare landscape in the digital age can be complex, the Vagina Privacy Network is one step towards MSI’s mission of making reproductive choices possible for all.
