We are delighted to announce that Mark Slack has joined MSI as our new Trustee.
Mark is a co-founder and the Chief Medical Officer of CMR Surgical, a start-up in Cambridge which developed a novel surgical robot designed to increase the use of minimally invasive surgery. The company has ‘unicorn status’, a term used to define start-up companies that reach a valuation of over $1 billion.
This adds to an already hugely successful medical career which began in South Africa, where he graduated from the College of Medicine of South Africa in Gynaecology, winning the Daubenton Gold Medal for the most distinguished candidate in the country.
Mark spent time as the Head of Gynaecology and Urogynaecology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, and ran a successful research unit at the University of Cambridge. He was recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Research as one of the leading clinical researchers in the UK. He has invented several procedures which were adopted globally by medical companies, including Johnson & Johnson.
Mark shares his knowledge generously, having published over 100 peer reviewed papers, more than 25 book chapters, and numerous national guidelines. He is a regular contributor on several national radio and television programmes.
And in his spare time, Mark is a keen runner and enjoys sailing with his wife, as well as contributing his time and expertise to worthy missions like MSI’s. We warmly welcome him to the MSI family.
