Ethics Review Committee
The Ethics Review Committee (ERC) independently reviews our research proposals, promoting implementation of ethically sound research across the organisation.
The ERC was established according to the principles specified in the WHO Operational Guidelines for Ethics Committees (2000).
Our ERC is a registered Independent Review Board (IRB) and is governed by the following:
- The Declaration of Helsinki, The World Medical Association
- The Belmont Report, The National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioural Research
- Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) International Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects
- The Common Rule of the Federal-Wide Assurance for the Protection of Human Subjects (FWA)
We have our own Federal-Wide Assurance, issued by the Office of Human Research Protection, at the US Department of Health and Human Services. This assures that all research reviewed by the ERC in all partner programmes and subsidiaries will be guided by the highest global set of standards and guidelines for the protection of the rights and welfare of human research participants.
